November 19, 2013 Lauren + Joe | Pasadena Engagement Session
I am a big fan of Lauren and Joe. They hired me without even meeting me, and when we first met we chatted like old friends for well over an hour. We brainstormed ideas for their engagement session and Lauren mentioned that her best friend’s family owned an island. Immediately my interest was piqued… owned an island?? In MARYLAND? This is amazing! I learned more about the island and more about her friend. Heather and Lauren were best friends throughout their entire childhood and Lauren stood by Heather’s side through her cancer diagnosis and her battle against the awful disease. Being there and seeing the amazing place that Lauren and Heather spent so much time throughout their childhood, and being able to honor Heather’s memory was truly a beautiful thing.
The island was the perfect backdrop to showcase Lauren and Joe’s love. They’re such a special couple and I loved being able to spend my morning with them and get to know them better. Joe wasn’t exactly thrilled about having his photo taken, but he was a trooper and we got some amazing stuff!
I took this on the boat over to the island- how amazing is this? When Heather’s family purchased the island it was eroding and a complete wreck with a disaster of a house on the island. Now it’s a little piece of paradise!
After getting the tour of the house, I took a photo of Lauren’s ring with Heather’s necklace- a necklace that she wore every day, and a symbol that Lauren has tattooed on her in Heather’s memory.
We headed outside after I got the ring shots and explored the area! It was a beautiful cloudy morning and although it was cooler than 40 degrees out, it actually felt great!

I was excited to see that not only were there plenty of trees on the little island, but they had beautiful colored leaves still intact!

Lauren + Joe, I am SO excited to work with you guys for your wedding, and so sad that it’s almost a year away! I had a blast on Friday and can’t wait to see you again!
